Today’s expedition was beyond expectation. We could see the thousands of penguins and seals from our ship. Today we were able to go shoreside since it was uninhabited with no COVID spreading chance. The Zodiac trip was our best yet, with more experience, flat seas, and easy shallow lending.

We were greeted by dozens of new young and rambunctious baby fur seals and inquisitive King Penguins. The shore crew had to shoo away our seal and penguin greeting party. We felt like celebrities.

The 100s of baby seals acted like teenagers at a 60’s Beatles concert jumping, diving, barking, and pressing forward to see us. Penguins were more dignified waiting for us to walk ashore for a more formal greeting in their Tuxedo stances. The baby seals were cute and adorable with their huge brown eyes and oily fur.

Although there were 100s of seals and penguins greeting us on the shore party, we were briefed the day before that the real treasure was the Penguin Rookery, about a mile up a slight incline. Along the way were 100s of seals. Many of the young “teenagers” would bark and mock charge us imitating the mature seals.

Moms were especially protective of their babies. We learned that each seal mom has a special sound frequency to call their cubs to come for a sucking feeding.

Sandy climbed up a rock to see the penguin colony called a rookery. It was simply awesome in its size of (an estimated) 50,000 to 70,000 penguins pairs huddled together, preening and squawking, all of them smartly dressed in their formalwear. As a bonus, the Expedition Photographer pointed out one of the bird predators that feed on Penguin eggs for her to take a picture.

On the way back, Sandy capture the Expedition Photographer laying prone on the ground taking pictures.

TALE OF TALES Enrichment Lecture Bruno Cazarini (Travel Photography) Bruno is our Expedition Photographer from the Southeast corner of Brazil.

As an awarded expedition photographer & filmmaker, Bruno has already traveled to more than 110 different countries all over the world.

Today’s Topic: The Exposure Triangle: Understanding How Aperture, Shutter Speed, and ISO Work Together.

He simplified and explained the Exposure Triangle and showed examples of how these work together…amazing. This will improve all our picture taking during our voyage.

CHANEL
The Boutique
The fashion house founded by Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel created the ultimate
symbol of femininity in 1921 with Chanel No. 5.

So-called because it was the fifth scent presented by its designer to Mlle. Chanel.

Nearly a century later, the timeless classic has been joined by many other scents, but all share the graceful sophistication of the firstborn.
